VIVE Mars presents BEST HORROR SHOT!

Each participant will submit a 1-3 minute horror film entry using VIVE Mars CamTrack. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner for the INDUSTRY category. There will be only 1 winner for the STUDENT category. 

Submissions will only be accepted from Sept. 1st, 2024 - Oct. 14th, 2024. Our special guest judges will select the talented winners announced on Halloween, Oct. 31st, 2024.

‍COMPETITION DATES:

• START: Submissions open Sunday, Sept. 1st, 2024, 12:00 AM PST
• DEADLINE: Submissions close Monday, Oct. 14th, 2024, 11:59 PM PST
• WINNERS: Winners will be announced on VIVE Mars' Instagram and Facebook on Halloween, Oct. 31st, 2024

PRIZES:

• Winners will receive over $18,000 in prizes in gift certificates and equipment from MSI, B&H PHOTO, SmallRig, Aximmetry, DZO FILM and more!

COMPETITION RULES:

• The participant must be 18 years of age or above
• The participant must be a VIVE Mars Facebook Group Member‍
• The participant must use VIVE Mars CamTrack with one of the following:
  a. LED Wall, Green Screen, or Augmented Reality
  b. Post-Production VFX – Record your camera position for offline VFX using Path Recorder
  c. VCAM - Animation using VIVE Mars for virtual camera motion
• Each participant is allowed only one entry as the DIRECTOR
  a. We encourage production teams to submit multiple entries with each member directing their own entry
• The participant is required to include the following in their scene:
  a. Required Verbal Quote: "Who's there?" *Or translation for non-English speakers
  b. Required 3D Asset *Must be visible at least once in the scene, however large or small

  c. FOR STUDENTS: Their school’s logo‍

• The entry must be an original work
• The participant must submit 2 files:
  a. BEST HORROR SHOT! entry (This refers not only to a single take or shot, but can also be a sequence lasting 1 to 3 minutes.)
  b. Behind-The-Scenes entry (Must include footage of Mars CamTrack)
• This year, we’re featuring an Artificial Intelligence Prize courtesy of MSI. MSI is eager to explore the creative potential of AI in filmmaking. As part of their commitment to innovation, this year, we’re introducing the MSI Artificial Intelligence Prize. To be eligible for this award, participants must:  
  
  • Use AI in the creation of the BEST HORROR SHOT! Entry
  • Explain how they used AI in their BTS Entry
  • Check the MSI AI Prize Consideration box on the Submission Form
    
  ‍Judging will be based on the most effective uses of AI-powered tooling in the creation process.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Submissions will only be accepted from Sept. 1st, 2024 - Oct. 14th, 2024
2. The duration of the BEST HORROR SHOT! entry must be between 1 - 3 minutes (This refers not only to a single take or shot, but can also be a sequence lasting 1 to 3 minutes.)
3. The duration of the Behind-The-Scenes entry must be between 1 - 5 minutes (Must include footage of Mars CamTrack)
4. The submission form must be filled out (will be provided in submission link)
5. The videos must be in .mp4 or .mov format
6. For consideration of the Artificial Intelligence Prize, check the ‘MSI AI Prize’ box on the Submission Form

Both the INDUSTRY winners and the STUDENT winner will be judged on the following:

1. Best Scare
2. Best Cinematography  
3. Best Story 
4. Best Performance
